Going, Going, Gone! Brilliant results for Birkins and Bayswaters

Back

Fellows first Designer Collection auction of 2017 saw great results with 91% of the lots sold by value.

Particular lots to note from the auction’s results are the Birkin handbags from famous French maker, Hermès. At the highest end of the results were an Ardennes Birkin 35 handbag and a Sable Togo Birkin 35 handbag. These bags were very popular with bidders online, in the room and bidding on the phones as they achieved £5,400 and £5,600, respectively (plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included).

There were 3 Birkin bags that sold in this auction at around the £4,000 -mark. A limited edition Jaune d'Or Courchevel Birkin 35 handbag achieved £4,600 (plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included); a 2005 Rouge Garance Fjord Birkin 35 handbag went under the hammer for £4,200 (plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included) and a 2004 Chocolate Epson Birkin 35 handbag made one lucky buyer very happy at £4,100 (plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included).

French style was not limited to Hermès, Chanel also proved popular in Monday’s auction. The auction saw good results for a variety of Chanel pieces but the highest prices were achieved by a Jumbo Classic Double Flap handbag (£1,500 plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included) and a bronze leather Small Crown handbag (£1,200 plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included).

Fun, limited editions from Louis Vuitton caught the attention of buyers. A limited edition Long Alma Graffiti handbag achieved £320 (plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included) on the day and a rare combined set of four pieces from the 2003 limited edition Murakami Cherry Blossom collection went for £720 (plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included).

Not to be out-done by the French, British designers were also extremely in demand in this auction. Pieces from Alexander McQueen and Jimmy Choo sold well but the most popular British brand in the auction was Mulberry. The iconic Bayswater design piqued the buyers’ interest and an embossed oak leather Bayswater handbag sold for £660 (plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included), while a black model achieved £320 (plus 24% buyer’s premium VAT included).
